Did you know that 77% of sellers who use FeedbackFive use it for Request a Review automation as opposed to Buyer-Seller Messaging emails?
That's a significant portion of the thousands of FeedbackFive users around the world. And it's increasing: a little over a year ago, the number was closer to 55%. So why the big jump?
We decided to find out.
In this article, we'll explain the many benefits of sending Amazon's Request a Review message and examine why so many sellers have found tremendous success by choosing to automate it.
Amazon introduced the Request a Review button in 2019 as a way to contact buyers. Clicking it sends an email to the buyer asking for both a product review and seller feedback.
The message looks like this when buyers receive it:
To access it, log into your Seller Central account. Go to the Manage Orders page and filter by orders with a "Payment Complete" status. Click on the order number to view the Order Details page. The Request a Review button is near the top right of the page.
See it up there? It's easy to miss!
There are a number of reasons why sellers rely on Amazon's Request a Review message. Here are three of the biggest benefits.
Contrary to what you may hear on the forums, Amazon still allows sellers to request product reviews and seller feedback. (The Request a Review button wouldn't be offered at all if Amazon didn’t want sellers requesting reviews!)
The Amazon Communication Guidelines say that sellers can request reviews through other channels too, including automating Buyer-Seller Messaging emails with software from the Selling Partner Appstore. But many sellers have seen their Buyer-Seller Messages being blocked or restricted due to violations of the rules, which include attachments, external links, sensitive content, tracking pixels, and more.
If you send automated requests through Buyer-Seller Messaging, it can be hard to follow all these guidelines, even if you’re being very careful. You're also obligated to translate the message into the buyer's preferred language and include the order ID.
With the Request a Review message, however, there’s no chance of your requests being blocked or restricted because this is a message that Amazon created. It can’t be edited, so there’s no way to accidentally insert words, formatting, or images that could get you into trouble. It's also automatically translated into the buyer's preferred language!
Amazon also has safeguards built in to ensure buyers don't get more than one of this type of request or receive the request before receiving the item. But you still have ultimate control over who receives the request and when within Amazon guidelines. (It’s like going bowling with the bumpers on!)

Many sellers are choosing to err on the side of caution, especially if they have received a 30-day Buyer-Seller Messaging restriction before. They don’t want to risk further action against their account or send requests that simply don’t go through.
Sellers who have had more than one 30-day restriction might be permanently restricted from sending proactive Buyer-Seller Messaging emails. But even if you’re permanently restricted, you can still use the Request a Review message without any issues!
While the inability to edit the Request a Review message might seem too limiting, the more simplified design actually seems to work well, especially for getting product reviews.
When FeedbackFive first added Request a Review automation to its feature set, many users saw their average daily reviews increase by 41%!
Product reviews are extremely important to Amazon sellers. In a recent study conducted by eComEngine, 84% of sellers surveyed felt that reviews were extremely or very important to their Amazon businesses.
Competing on an existing listing, as Amazon resellers often must do, is a difficult game. More and more sellers are creating their own products and registering brands on Amazon to differentiate themselves from the competition. As brands and private labels grow in popularity, getting a healthy rate of product reviews on those unique listings is increasingly important.
And with Amazon cracking down on Facebook groups and other review manipulation attempts, getting consistent, genuine reviews through a trusted Amazon channel is the best way to build a strong reputation for your product and brand.
Isn’t the Request a Review button right there in Seller Central? Why use a tool like FeedbackFive to automate it?
Because clicking the button for each order takes lots of time that could be better spent on higher-value activities for your business. Imagine clicking into the Order Details page, making sure the order was already delivered, and clicking the Request a Review button for every order. It won't scale well as your business grows.
In FeedbackFive, you can activate a campaign with the Request a Review template in just one click, and the message will be triggered automatically for all qualifying orders from then on.
And even if you can’t break any Amazon policies with this message, there’s still room for human error when you request manually. What if a customer receives a damaged item and reaches out to you for help? Accidentally sending a request for a review and feedback before you’ve solved the buyer’s problem could lead to a negative rating that could have been prevented.
With FeedbackFive, you can forward incoming buyer messages to an opt-out list so the tool can exclude them from receiving requests. You can also set up rules to control when buyers receive the Request a Review message, based on the order date or delivery date.
Plus, you can even set up different campaign rules for different products. For example, if someone purchased your bamboo-growing kit, give them a couple of weeks to watch the seeds sprout before asking for a review.
Or, if someone bought your bamboo paper towels, grab that review within a few days after delivery before the excitement wears off. (“These saved the day during the Great Grape Juice Emergency of last Wednesday! Thank you, Amazon same-day delivery!”)
Amazon allows you to send the Request a Review message between five and 30 days after delivery, giving you the flexibility to ask at the right time for your customers and products.
That leads us to another question: why pay for FeedbackFive's Request a Review automation? Aren’t there free browser extensions that can automatically click the Request a Review button?
Yes, there are, but they don’t necessarily have the same robust targeting rules that FeedbackFive campaigns offer. And, you still have to log into Seller Central and launch the extension every single day.
FeedbackFive automates the entire process. You can even choose the time of day the messages will be sent! Ideally, that should be a time your buyers are awake, in a good mood, and ready to check their emails.
If you're based in the US but sell on Amazon India or vice versa, you don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night to request reviews from your customers. Let FeedbackFive take care of it with customized timing for each Amazon marketplace.
Plus, these browser extensions can have some nasty security risks and might be scraping lots of personal and business information from your seller account…and who knows where the data is going after that? As an authorized app in the Amazon Selling Partner Network, now the Selling Partner Appstore, FeedbackFive uses the secure Amazon API to trigger the Request a Review message.
Last but not least, free browser extensions don’t typically include detailed product analytics. FeedbackFive monitors reviews and feedback for you and sends you alerts for negative ratings, if you so choose (something that Amazon itself doesn't even do). This saves you even more time and makes it a breeze to monitor your product and seller reputation.
It’s just as important as ever, if not even more so, to get genuine, honest reviews through Amazon-approved channels. The Request a Review message is growing in popularity among sellers, and FeedbackFive can automate the process for you in just a few clicks.
