What if there were a way for Amazon merchants to see which products are rising the fastest? What if that resource were updated hourly? What if it were free!?
I'm describing, of course, the Amazon Movers & Shakers page. While not as popular as the Best Sellers page, for Amazon sellers the Movers & Shakers page has a lot more valuable information about shopping behavior and product trends…as long as you know how it works.
In this guide, I'll explain everything you need to know about the Movers & Shakers page, including three expert ways that you can leverage it to improve your business.
Amazon describes the Movers & Shakers page as “Our biggest gainers in sales rank over the past 24 hours,” but that doesn’t quite do it justice.
A better description would be that it showcases the products — divided by category — that have the biggest improvements in sales over the past 24 hours, not necessarily the number of sales itself. So Product A, which sold 20 items in a day, could potentially land higher on the Movers & Shakers list than Product B, which sold 100 items a day, if Product B sells 100 items every day as its norm.
But like most people, you might be wondering, “What’s the difference between the Best Sellers page and the Movers & Shakers page?” It’s a worthwhile question, but the answers tend to get muddled because Amazon keeps its trade secrets under wraps.
However, the simplest answer is the time period. The Movers & Shakers page considers a product’s selling performance over one day, whereas the Best Sellers page considers its performance over one month.
The Movers & Shakers page considers a product’s selling performance over one day. The Amazon Best Sellers page considers its performance over one month.
In even simpler terms, the Best Sellers page is more about a product’s overall success, whereas the Movers & Shakers page is more about a product’s current and timely success. For that reason, the Movers & Shakers page is an extremely valuable resource for sellers to monitor shopping behaviors in real time.
And because it updates every hour, eagle-eyed sellers can use it to plan selling strategies, monitor shopping trends, and experiment with new products or categories. Here are three ways you can use the Movers & Shakers page:
To sellers, one of the main appeals of the Movers & Shakers page isn’t the actual products, but what the products say about customer shopping patterns. It’s more about the big picture — what types of products are selling instead of the actual products themselves.
For example, let’s say the Camera and Photo category is full of binoculars and telescope lenses. Rather than simply selling the one or two products that top the list, you can focus on the greater trend of long-distance photography. If the pattern continues for long enough, that’s enough evidence to deduce long-distance photography is an upcoming trend.
That gives you a head-start on sourcing your own binocular and telescopes — that means you might have even more luck with a long-distance photography product that hasn’t even appeared on the Movers & Shakers page yet.
In some instances, the Movers & Shakers page can be a product sourcing catalog. Although you may not be able to offer every product you see there, some white label goods or generic products may be available for you to sell.
The trick with selling products on the Movers & Shakers page is speed. Because the page is so time-sensitive, if you wait too long you risk:
Your best bet is to check the Movers & Shakers page regularly. Familiarize yourself with the items so you can tell the difference between the ones that will stay popular for a while and the flukes. As soon as a promising new product appears, you’ll be able to offer it yourself before your competitors even notice.
If you can’t beat them, join them. By the time a product makes it on the Movers & Shakers page, it’s not long before the competition ramps up. Rather than entering the fray yourself, you can cut your losses and team up with one of the winning sellers. That spares you from the disadvantage of entering late if you’ve already waited too long to sell it yourself.
When I say “join,” I mean affiliate marketing. Through Amazon’s Associate program, you can earn a commission on any sales you send to Amazon through a referral link. How much commission you earn depends on the product category, with most earning around 4% — although luxury and beauty items can offer up to 10%.
Of course, this strategy requires a viable outreach platform. To truly succeed as an affiliate, you’ll need a popular blog, social media account, or any other online community. You’re essentially becoming an Amazon influencer, which requires a different skill set than selling alone.
Have you ever used the Movers & Shakers page as a product sourcing tool? Do you have any questions or suggestions that we missed? We want to hear your thoughts, so share your opinions below in the comments section now.
