Using Amazon FBA is like conducting business in a foreign country — there's a specific way of doing things and rules to know. For outsiders, that can take some getting used to.
The FBA labeling system is a prime example. Amazon FBA label requirements and guidelines are very specific and can impact whether your product is ready to sell when it arrives at FBA.
So to assist your Amazon FBA business and lend a helping hand to newcomers, below we explain everything you need to know about labels for Amazon FBA, including where to put them, what to put on them, and how to print Amazon labels. Consider this a quick reference guide if you ever forget or don't want to sort through all the Seller Central pages on the topic.
In a nutshell, Amazon FBA labels have 3 requirements:
The most important part is by far the FNSKU. It may seem cumbersome to “redo” your product’s label when there’s a perfectly good SKU already on the item, but Amazon has a good reason. Other merchants may be selling the same product, so using a standard UPC or other SKU wouldn’t work. FNSKUs are unique to each product and seller, creating a standardized system that works across all Amazon warehouses.

Where do you find the FNSKU? Amazon automatically generates them for you when you add a new product to your catalog. As soon as you enter a product into the Amazon system, it gets its FNSKU. You can check all the FNSKUs for your products in the Inventory section of Seller Central.
Amazon Seller Central knows how frustrating printing all those product labels can be, so they try to make the process as painless as possible. To print your Amazon FBA labels, follow these steps:
Amazon generates the label for you, so you don’t have to worry too much about the specifics. What you do need to think about is the type of label, which is to say its size. Amazon gives you a few standardized options:
On top of the specifics for the labels themselves, you also have to meet the requirements for the printer and the label paper.

Of course, fulfilling all these requirements when printing labels for FBA can be daunting, especially when you’re preparing hundreds of items for FBA. To help you manage some of the busy work, our RestockPro software streamlines printing accurate and Amazon-compliant labels, including customization options for Dymo and Zebra printers.
RestockPro eliminates sticker waste by printing exactly how many labels you actually need based on your received quantities. It also features a number of customization options beyond those offered in Seller Central that allow you to create FBA item labels to meet your specifications as well as Amazon's requirements.
Now that you have your stickers, all that’s left to do is stick them. But it’s not as easy as slapping them on a box and sending them off. Amazon requires FBA labels to be placed just right so that their workers can conveniently scan and process them.
Specifically, follow these guidelines when affixing labels:
Although it’s not necessary, now is a good opportunity to double-check that the labels are affixed to the correct product. It’s better to catch mistakes sooner than later. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay twice for shipping products to the fulfillment centers.
It may seem like Fulfillment by Amazon makes sellers jump through a lot of hoops, but for many merchants, it’s all worth it. Amazon FBA not only allows you to sell to a greater geographical area but also handles shipping logistics for you, freeing up your time to spend more on business.
